PANDEMIC PHASE
Ever since the Pandemic has hit we have tried to make the online classes better. High-tech technology was the only solution during this period. We have converted our classrooms to studio rooms spending Rs.60 lakhs. A recurring cost of Rs.1.25 lakhs per month will also be incurred. All the teachers take their sessions from this studio. The use of this system gives all the students the feeling of sitting in a class and studying. Apart from the live classes, we are also recording the online classes and they are uploaded on our YouTube channel daily. We have more than 6000 videos on our channel for the year 2020-2021. On every Monday, we conduct the morning assembly virtually where all the 2000 students and their parents participate. All the national festivals are celebrated virtually. Apart from this, we had also conducted online dance training and football coaching for our students. Lockdown Vibes was an initiative by the school where all the students took part virtually. They had sent us videos of different activities done by them during the lockdown period.
The school had received 3 awards for having the best online classes in Kerala. In the national online teaching contest, 35 teachers from our school entered the final round out of 200 teachers. From 600 schools belonging to 10 states, 1500 teachers participated in the contest. Two of our teachers won the Best Teacher award out of 5 categories, one teacher came second and four teachers won third prize. Our school also won the highest number of awards.

NO OFFLINE CLASSES : PARENTS
Dr. Raju Davis International school, Mala, Thrissur conducted an online Google survey among its parents, studying in classes 1 to VII to find their opinion on the opening school from Nov. 1, in which 76% of the parents opined NOT TO OPEN the school, in this present scenario. This survey is reported to be the first of its kind among stake holders and the management hopes it would an initiative and encouragement to other schools also, so that they would be able to take a right decision. 836 parents participated in the survey. Among them 631 people were of opinion not to open the school, while 75.5% participants disagreed with the suggestion of shift based classes. When 36% participants supported the suggestion of conducting classes on alternative days, only 13.5% people supported the classes on alternative weeks. It is noted that 52.2% of the participants opined to open school only after evaluating the conditions of government schools after the reopening and 59.6% stake holders expressed their readiness in opening school from Jan 1.
School has brought the latest technology in educating students throughout its online classes from LKG to Class XII. School has set up studio class rooms with lighting systems, camera and panel boards in each classroom in tune with the television channel studio system. These live interactive classes help the students to experience the real classroom feeling. More over these classes are edited and are made available in the school YouTube channel also. The parents and guardians evaluated this system of online classes as unparellel to any other system and took it as the reason to opt online classes, instead of opening the school in this pandemic.
“The guidelines put forward by the government is not practical in its reality when we consider the CBSE schools” says Dr. Raju Davis Perepadan, Chairman of Dr. Raju Davis International School, Mala, Thrissur. “How can we keep one child-one seat ratio in the school bus? If so, the guardians have to pay a heavy duty for the transportation. Moreover, if the students depend public transport, it may give more chances to get infected also, he told reporters. When students of CBSE schools are hailing even form a distances of 20km, the students studying in government schools reach their schools either by walk or by bicycle. He also questioned the suggestion of government to conduct classes with 25% students, with its practical difficulties. If so the school has to appoint 40% new teachers, to its existing staff. It also should be noted that for the students who are travelling one hour after the online morning class and to reach school for the afternoon shift is unethical and also not practical.
“Considering all these facts and considering the suggestions of the stake holders, the management has decided not to open the school on Nov 1 for classes 1-7”, said the Chairman Dr. Raju Davis Perepadan. Then the condition will be assessed after one month and a prompt decision will be taken later. But the classes for the students of 8-12 will be conducted as per the fixed schedule. Management has the opinion to open the school at an early date in line with the suggestions of the government. So the school expects a practical approach from the government authorities.
